Billy Garrett - Host City speaker

Billy Garrett

Position: Director of Culture, Tourism and Events; Glasgow Life

Billy is responsible for the promotion of Glasgow as a world-class destination for culture, tourism and events.

A key part of his remit includes directing Glasgow’s Events Strategy, working with local and national agencies, major cultural bodies, UK and global sports federations, and city partners to attract major international events to the city.

Billy has been involved in the delivery of some of Glasgow’s most high-profile events – including the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, and 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships. He has senior responsibility at Glasgow Life for the delivery of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, and for the city hosting – in conjunction with the SFA – the UEFA EURO 2028 Football Championship.

His role also involves directing the work of Glasgow Convention Bureau – voted the UK’s best for 19 consecutive years – which coordinates the city’s bids for more than 100 international conference events. He also provides leadership across Glasgow Life’s diverse portfolio of arts, music and cultural venues.

Billy’s role underpins Glasgow Life’s commitment to improving the mental, physical and economic wellbeing of the city and its communities through the power of events, culture and sport.
