Niels Nygaard

Position: Vice President, European Olympic Committees; President, National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark 

Niels Nygaard has been Vice President of European Olympic Committees (EOC) since 2017 and Member of its Executive Committee since 2013.  

He has also been President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and Sports Confederation of Denmark since 2007 and Board Member since 1992.  

He is also a Member of the IOC Commission on Public Affairs and Social Development, a position he has held since 2013. 

Formerly an elite runner, Niels was President of the Danish Athletic Federation from 1986-1992.  

Other previous roles include: Chairman of Sports Foundation Denmark (today Sport Event Denmark) from 1994-2007; Chairman of the NOC of Denmark’s Anti-Doping Committee from 1992-2003; Owner of Hotel Gl. Skivehus from 1993-2014; President of Danish Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Organisation from 1995-2003; President of National Tourism Organisation VisitDenmark from 2003-2007; and President of European Hotels and Restaurants Association from 1999-2002. 

Niels is 65, married and has 2 daughters.
