Position: Head of Major Events, Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development
Stuart’s role is to ensure that Auckland continues to build and deliver a portfolio of world class major events that are aligned with Auckland’s Major Events Strategy.
Stuart joined the team in February 2018 from Scotland where he headed up the team at EventScotland from 1997 to 2017. He was responsible for EventScotland’s events portfolio, leading its overall strategic approach. Prior to working with EventScotland, Stuart was Performance Director with the Scottish Golf Union.
In addition, he has also worked with the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland on the last six Commonwealth Games including working as Director of the pre-games Team Camps for both the 2006 and 2018 games as well as being an Attaché to Team Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He was also part of the Sport Advisory Group for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Stuart’s aim is to continue to make a significant contribution to the development of the events, sports and tourism industries in New Zealand as he has done so successfully in Scotland.
Stuart has a wide variety of cultural interests including film, music and whisky.
